Back to School FDL Is Back for 2018

It may seem odd that you’re hearing about back to school when we’ve still got half of the summer left.  Yet this is the time when the Back to School FDL teams start ramping up to ensure that local kids needing assistance will get the supplies they need to start school in the fall. It’s also when you start seeing all of those school supplies advertisements.

Registration for Back to School FDL will be a 2-day sign-up at the Salvation Army. You may register on either Saturday, August 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or Monday, August 13 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.  There will be several trained volunteers assisting on those days who will be able to answer questions about eligibility and Distribution Day.  More information about what is needed for registration will be provided as registration dates approach or can be found at backtoschoolfdl.org.

Speaking of volunteers, Back to School FDL is seeking to expand their list of volunteers who can donate any amount of time to this community-wide collaboration that takes place every year in August. Leading up to Distribution Day, many people are needed to ensure that: supplies are collected and sorted, families are registered, money is raised to purchase the supplies, the community is aware of when the event takes place, and people are prepped for working supply tables and escorting children through the shopping experience on that busy, busy day in August.

You can make an impact on children’s lives by giving just a few hours of your time during the months of June through August. Back to School FDL Collecting Supplies

Soon you’ll be seeing Back to School FDL volunteers around town working to collect supplies for Back to School FDL Distribution Day. This will provide you with several opportunities to be a part of a project that supports others and helps children feel prepared for the start of the school year.

Volunteers will be at the August 2nd DockSpiders game collecting school supplies and monetary donations. Then again, on August 4, the Fill the Bus campaign will be at Shopko from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Area churches and local businesses are also helping out by providing collection points for school supplies in their buildings.
